Kellogg Man Electrocuted
Kellogg – Michael Carl Vinall, 19, of Rt. 2, Kellogg, a lifelong resident of Jasper County, died at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Grinnell General Hospital after suffering severe electrical shock at his place of employment in Grinnell.
The area man was rushed to a Grinnell hospital but was pronounced dead approximately 2 hours after the accident.
The accident occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m. at the Farmers Exchange, an elevator in southeast Grinnell.
According to a company official, Mr. Vinall had been assisting in the unloading of the truck from Des Moines shortly before the accident.
After the truck had been unloaded, it pulled into the adjacent city street.
Mr. Vinall apparently was assisting the driver in maneuvering the truck’s auger around some overhead wires, including a power line.
According to the company spokesman the auger apparently came in contact with the overhead power line.
When the driver stepped from the truck’s cab, he found young Vinall lying on the ground near the auger controls at the back of the truck.
The Kellogg man apparently was touching some part of the truck when its auger struck the wires.
Mr. Vinall had been employed at the Farmers Exchange for a week and a half.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Johnson-Reese Funeral Chapel in Newton.
The Rev. Carl E. Klein, pastor of the Kellogg United Methodist Church, will conduct services.
Private graveside rites will be conducted at Our Silent City Cemetery in Kellogg.
Friends may call at the Johnson-Reese Funeral Chapel after 10 a.m. Friday.
Survivors are his parents, Carl and Wilma Vinall; his grandmother, Mrs. Clara Chamberlain of Albia; two sisters, Vicki J. Vinall of Waverly and Linda R. Vinall of Des Moines; and a number of aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Harry and Verda Vinall and Harry Chamberlain.
Mr. Vinall, a member of the Kellogg United Methodist Church, was a 1976 graduate of Grinnell-Newburg Community High School.
He was born Sept. 3, 1957 at Grinnell and attended Grinnell schools.
