Robert Eugene Hagge, 51, Killed in Accident
A Colfax man died Wednesday afternoon in a crash between a pickup truck and a car at an uncontrolled intersection five miles southeast of Colfax.
Robert Eugene Hagge, 51, was pronounced dead at the scene from multiple injuries.
Deputy Sheriff Jim Verwers, investigating officer, said Hagge and Burton Guy Robins, 34, also of Colfax, were occupants of the pickup. It has not been determined who was driving, Verwers said. Hagge’s body was on the floor of the passenger side.
Robins sustained head injuries in the crash. He was treated at Skiff Memorial Hospital and later transferred to Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Des Moines, where he is reported in “poor” condition in the intensive care unit, suffering a possible skull fracture.
Driver of the car, Selmer Otis Toresdahl, 46, of Ames, sustained cuts and bruises. He was treated at Skiff hospital and released.
Verwers said the accident occurred about 4 p.m. when the westbound pickup truck hit the northbound car broadside in the county gravel road intersection. Both vehicles came to rest in the ditch with the pickup sheering off a utility pole before stopping.
Verwers was assisted by Iowa State Troopers and the sheriff’s department.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax.
The Rev. Omer Woltering, pastor of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Colfax, will conduct services. Burial will be in the McKeever Cemetery, north of Colfax.
Friends may call at the Walters-Coburn Funeral Home after 10 o’clock Friday morning.
