Blanche Winn Services Set For Thursday
Funeral services for Blanche Winn, 93, of the County Care Facility, a retired school teacher, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Toland-Wallace Funeral Home.
The Rev. Richard Bentzinger, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 9 a.m. Wednesday.
Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Survivors are two nieces, Mrs. Phil Rogers and Mrs. Martelle Wilkinson, both of Dallas, Tex., two nephews, Charles W. Winn and Jack M. Winn, both of Dallas, Tex., and special friends, Mr. and Mrs. George Cannon of Newton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; a sister; a niece; and a nephew.
Mrs. Winn was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Chapter A-PEO of Minneapolis, Minn., Moody Women’s Bible Class, started by her sister, Stella, and still in existence, and the Women’s Christian Temperance Union.
Miss Winn taught in Newton Community Schools and in the Minneapolis Public Schools for 27 years retiring in 1943.
The daughter of Charles William and Eunice Thomas Winn, she was born Jan. 23, 1883 5 miles west of Newton in the Sugar Grove Community. She graduated from Newton Community High School in 1901, Iowa State University in Ames in 1915, received her master’s degree from the University of Minnesota at Minneapolis in 1935 and did graduate work at Columbia University in New York City and the University of Chicago at Chicago, Ill.
