2 Newton Youths Killed in Truck-Motorcycle Crash
Two young rural Newton boys were killed shortly after 7 p.m. Wednesday when the motorcycle they were riding collided with a pickup truck on a gravel road two miles south and a mile west of Newton.
Scott Agan, 14, and Tracy Williams, 13, both of Rt. 2, Newton, were presumably killed instantly when they were thrown from the bike, a 70 Honda, after striking a truck driven by Ronald Sloan, 36, also of Rt. 2.
Iowa Trooper John Simonson said Sloan was eastbound on gravel and the youths (it had not been determined who was driving) were westbound. Tracks indicated the boys attempted to get off the road but hit the soft shoulder and went back onto the roadway, striking the pickup truck on its left front fender, Simonson said. The cycle had no lights or license, he said.
Sloan told officers he did not see the boys until they hit the truck.
The accident was investigated by state troopers, assisted by the sheriff’s department.

Funeral services for Tracy Dion Williams will be held at 20 a.m. Saturday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church – McCann Center.
Father Francis Bass, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Toland-Wallace Funeral Home after 3 p.m. Friday.

Survivors are his mother, Mrs. Loretta Williams of Newton; his father, Douglas Williams of Marshalltown; four brothers, Douglas Jr., and Rodney S.
