Funeral services for Jay C. Auten 62, of 2109 lst Ave. W., a longtime resident of Newton, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 15 at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home. The Rev. Robert Stewart, pastor of the First Assembly of God, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Veterans' Section of Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 1 p.m. today. Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions to a fund in Mr. Auten's name may be left at the funeral home.

He died Tuesday morning, May 13, at the Skiff Medical Center.

Survivors are his wife, Bonnie; a son Keith of Newton; two daughters, Nancy (Mrs. Glen) Brown and Kimberlee (Mrs. James) Swan, both of Newton, nine grandchildren; two brothers L.E. "Bill" and Richard Mason of South Bend, Indiana; and two sisters, Catherine (Mrs. Leo) Klopf of Vancouver, WA, and Jeanne (Mrs. Bill) Hinshaw of Kellogg.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Merlin E. and John E.

Mr. Auten, a veteran of World War II, retired from the Maytag Co. in February, 1977, and had driven a school bus for several years.

The son of Edward L. and Clara Iva Lee Auten, he was born August 11, 1923 in Saylorville and was a 1941 graduate of Newton Community High School.

He was married to Bonnie D. Hummel August 9, 19142 in Kohota, MO.
