Mrs. Loyal Johnson Died At Home Here
Mrs. Loyal Johnson, 56, a resident of this city for the past seven years, died at her home in Colfax at 10:00 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28th. Mrs. Johnson had been in ill health since a stroke in December of 1953, having been a partial invalid as a result.
Mrs. Loyal (Nellie) Johnson, daughter of Eben and Ida Logsdon, was born in Newton, Iowa, Feb. 12, 1900 and departed this life Nov. 28th, 1956.
She was married Jan. 1, 1943 in Lynnville to Loyal Johnson. Mrs. Johnson was baptized in the Baptist Church of Colfax, Nov. 8, 1953 of which she became a member.
She is survived by her husband Loyal; three step children, Claire Patterson of Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Margaret Moston of Newton and Loyal Johnson, Jr., station with the Air Force at Port Austin, Michigan. Others left to mourn her passing include a granddaughter, Karen Schermerhorn, who made her home with the Johnsons, four other grandchildren and two brothers, Clarence Logsdon and Harry Logsdon of Newton.
Three children preceded her in death, two dying in infancy. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Guy Logsdon and sister, Pearl Mahaffey.
Kind and considerate, Mrs. Johnson maintained a cheerful outlook through her period of illness, and was dearly beloved by her family, neighbors and friends.
Funeral services were conducted from the Baptist church in this city Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Bernard Waage, pastor of the church, officiating.
Music was furnished by Gomer Williams, soloist with Mrs. Bernard Waage, organist.
Bearers were John Williams, Earl Plummer, Keith Bell, John Sumpter, John Sufficool and William Hogendorn.
Those in charge of flowers were Mrs. Gomer Williams and Mrs. Francis Lester.
Burial was in the Union cemetery at Newton, Iowa.
