Marvin "Marv" D. Sloan, age 86, died March 20, 2022, in Knoxville, IA. Marv was born October 10, 1935, at Givin, IA to Charles W. & Mae Sloan. Marvin graduated from Monroe High School in 1954 & from Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) in 1958, earning a BA in Education. He married M. Jane McCauley in 1956, & they had four children: Michael, Timothy, Sandra, and Patrick. He taught in Clinton, South Winneshiek HS, and Pella HS. In 1969 they moved to Knoxville, IA where he taught & coached until he retired in 1994.
Marvin is survived by his wife of 66 years, Jane; son Mike (Terri) of Loveland, CO; Sandy Barker (Mahlon) of West Des Moines, IA; Pat (Ellen) of Ottawa, KS; his brother, Keith (June) of Pella; 9 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws, Clare & Joye McCauley; his son, Tim; one grandson, two brothers, & his sister.
Visitation will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Knoxville, IA Thurs., March 31 from 4-7 pm. A memorial service will be held at the church Fri., April 1 at 10:30 am. A luncheon will be held following the service. Graveside service will follow the luncheon at Silent Cemetery in Monroe. Memorials may be made to the family, who will be establishing a scholarship in Marvin's name; or to Trinity Lutheran Church.
