Mrs. William H. Ball Died At Home Monday
Mrs. William A. Ball, 88, a resident of this city for the past 72 years, died at her home on South Walnut street Monday afternoon, November 7th at 3:45, following an illness of long duration. Mrs. Ball had been in failing health for several years, and her condition weakened steadily the past two weeks until the end came Monday. Death was due to infirmities of age.
Mary A. Ball was born October 15, 1867 at Brooklyn, Iowa, the daughter of John and Julia Pflaum. She was united in marriage to William Howard Ball, October 17, 1886 in this city and to this union two children were born, a daughter, Coral, who died at the age of 1, and a son, Earl, who passed away April 30, 1953.
Mrs. Ball was a member of the Methodist Church and taught in the Sunday School classes of the church for 17 years. She was also a past Noble Grand of the Rebekah Lodge and a past president of the Colfax Woman’s club, serving as head of that organization when the present-day woman’s Club park was purchased. Before her health failed, Mrs. Ball spent an active life in the betterment of the community and in the work of her church, enjoying the fellowship of others and the opportunity to share in making others happy.
Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Ethel Ball, who has cared for her the past 9 years; two grandchildren, Mrs. Helen Fray of Colfax and William Earl Ball of Santa Monica, Calif., six great-grandchildren, one brother, J. O. Pflaum of Colfax and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday afternoon (today) from the Bumgardner Chapel at 2:00 with Rev. W. L. Hawn, pastor of the Methodist Church, officiating.
Music will be furnished by Gomer Williams, soloist with Mrs. Frank B. Evans, accompanist.
Bearers are Ralph Agar, Joe Law, Mike Orlich, Gene Burnett, Joe Weresh and Earl Plummer.
Garner Laws, Mrs. Robert Gregg and Mrs. John Evans, Jr., will be in charge of the flowers.
Burial will be in the McKeever cemetery, north of Colfax.
