Robert C. Schmitt, age 95, passed away on Monday, March 14, 2022 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 18, 2022, at 11:00 am at the Collins United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the church. An open visitation will be held at Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax on Thursday, March 17, 2022 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Collins. Memorials may be directed to the Collins United Methodist Church or the Colfax Senior Center and condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com

The son of Edwin Lyle and Audrey Vivian (Schlosser) Schmitt, Bob was born on August 24, 1926 near Mitchellville, Iowa. Bob graduated from Colfax High School in 1945. On December 27, 1953, he was united in marriage to Myrna Irene Telfer. She passed away on April 11, 1994. Bob was a farmer his entire life. He was a member of the Collins United Methodist Church and the Collins Lions Club. Bob never knew a stranger.

Those left to honor his memory include his companion, Mae Cox; two daughters, Cindy Taylor and Cathy (Vince) Willms; seven grandchildren, Ross (Traci) Taylor, Zach (Sandy) Willms, Lisa (Jesse) Monroe, Kyle (Bradi) Wilkinson, Kali (Steve) Scheidecker, Jordan (Lia) Willms and Chase (Sarah) Wilkinson; 18 great grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Esther Schmitt. Preceding Bob in death were his parents, Lyle and Audrey, wife, Myrna, four brothers, Max, Ray, Lee and Donald Dean and two sisters-in-law, Genevieve and Marilyn.
