The son of Henry and Grace (Tool) Peery, Donald was born on September 23, 1927 in Galesburg, Iowa. He graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1946. On June 7, 1952, he was united in marriage to Pearl Stephens. Donald was drafted into the Korean War and was stationed at Okinawa, Japan. Donald was honorably discharged when the war ended in 1953. Donald came home from the war and farmed for the rest of his life. He enjoyed being a member of the Monroe Kiwanis Club and the Monroe United Methodist Church for over 50 years. He loved to sing in the Church Choir and go to Bible Study groups. He even square danced in his younger years with his wife Pearl. He was also on the Soil and Water Conservation committee in Jasper County for several years. Donald loved having coffee time with all the men at Paul Kane's in Monroe and keeping up on all the town news. Donald's happy place was working on the farm, and anywhere his family was. Family was as important to him as his Church and faith. Donald started every day with a prayer and ended it the same way. He never missed reading his bible on a daily basis.

Those left to honor his memory include his daughter-in-law, Patti Peery; three grandchildren, Matthew Peery, Kenny (Anna Keller) Thorson and Melissa (Roger) Mann; four great grandchildren, Jordy Morrill, Gracey Mann, Robert Mann and Haleigh Sovara and several nieces and nephews. Preceding Donald in death were his parents, wife Pearl, in 2021, his only child, Darrell Peery in 2017; a sister, Edith Slegh and a brother, Kenneth Peery.
