Mary Elizabeth (Gates) Koppin, 70, of Newton died on Thursday, February 24, 2022, at Parkridge Specialty Care in Pleasant Hill. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 3, 2022, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Memorials to the Newton Athletic Booster Club or the American Diabetes Association may be left at the church the day of the service or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.

Mary, the daughter of Simon and Betty (Hart) Gates, Jr., was born on November 16, 1951 in Newton. She graduated from Newton High School in 1970. Mary was united in marriage with David Koppin on June 19, 1970 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton. Mary worked for many years at the Surgical Center as the Office Manager. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She enjoyed attending her children and grandchildren’s many activities through the years.

Mary is survived by her husband, David Koppin of Newton; children, Angela (Bryan) Rausch of Newton and Joseph (Shannon) Koppin of Ankeny; and grandchildren, Ryanne, Liliana, Audrey, and Landry Rausch and Jackson, Halle, and Charlie Koppin. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, William Gates.
