Keith Eugene Wisgerhof

Keith Eugene went home to our Lord on December 03, 2021, at the age of 91. Born to parents Irene and Gyspert Wisgerhof, he grew up in Newton, attended Newton schools and graduated in the class of 1949. He began his adult education by attending Drake University, but interrupted it by enlisting in the U.S. Army for three years during the Koran Conflict. Keith was deployed to Korea for a year and then spent the next two years in Nevada where the nuclear underground atomic testing was taking place. After his honorable discharge he returned to his interrupted studies and graduated from Arizona State University with a degree in sports education and later his masters. Keith was hired as the football coach at the newly built Paradise Valley High School. Here, Coach Wisgerhof not only coached but helped develop their athletic program. Although he dearly loved coaching and his many teams, he left his coaching career to try his hand at selling insurance. Keith was a “born” salesman. He did so well that he soon founded his own company the Kachina Sunburst Insurance Company where he remained until retired.

Keith loved life. He enjoyed his sports, music, playing his guitar and singing, the harmonicas, ballroom dancing, and spending time with family and friends.

Keith was a devoted husband to his late wife Shirley for 54 years, a loving father to son Kirby and daughter Rachel, cherished uncle to Julie and David, and beloved “Papa” to 5 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Nicknamed “Wiskey,” he was fondly remembered by his many associates and friends.

Keith also leaves behind his sister, Helen, and his cousin Tom, and his beloved Delores Butler, who was a former classmate and friend with whom he reconnected with while attending a class reunion several years after Shirley’s death. Joy was added to each other’s lives for several years.

Keith was preceded in death by his parents, a brother David, and his wife Shirley.

Military Rites were held on January 21, 2022 at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona. ~ The Newton (IA) News 01 Feb 2022.
