Ira Farmer Takes Own Life Today
George E. Bucklin Hangs Self in Barn; Discovered By His Brother-in-Law
George E. Bucklin, 51, farmer living 1 ˝ miles northeast of Ira, took his life by handing this morning, Coroner Ralph Toland announced.
Toland said that Bucklin’s body was found hanging in the barn. Bucklin evidently had placed a rope over a rafter in the part of the barn which was used as a garage for the family car and then placed it around his neck.
Found Body
Toland placed the time of death at 6:15 a.m. and the body was discovered by Bucklin’s brother-in-law, Ed Taylor, of Missouri who was visiting at the farm, at eight o’clock. Taylor notified Coroner Toland at nine o’clock.
The reason for Bucklin’s act was despondency.
Taylor reported to the Coroner that Bucklin had bone out to the barn to do the chores at six o’clock, and at eight o’clock he summoned Bucklin for breakfast and upon receiving no answer went to investigate and found the body.
Lifetime Resident
Bucklin was born on Sept. 25, 1895 near Baxter and spent his entire life in Jasper county.
Survivors include his widow, the former Loretha Gearhart; five sons, Edward, Thomas, Russell, Vernon and Gerald; four brothers and one sister.
Funeral arrangements had not been completed at press time this afternoon.
