J. H. Hawkins Dies At Prairie City
Prairie City – James Henry Hawkins of Prairie City died at his home Monday afternoon. He was born March 25, 1889 at Taylorville, Ill., the son of Walter A. and Mary Alice Hawkins.
Mr. Hawkins lived around Colfax from 1901 or 7 until 1934 when he moved to Prairie City where he has since resided. He married Anna Lora (Kate) Jenkins on March 19, 1910 in Des Moines.
He was a member of the IOOF and Rebekah Lodges at Prairie City.
He is survived by his wife and four children, Mrs. Rachel Busby and Mrs. Gerrit (Alice) Vander Leest, both of Newton; Mrs. Roy (Maxine) McClellan and Delbert Hawkins, both of Prairie City, 18 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; a brother, Jesse Hawkins of Escondido, Calif.
Services have been set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Walters Funeral Home in Prairie City. The Rev. Ben Buckingham, retired pastor of the Church of the Brethren will be in charge. Burial will be in Vandalia Cemetery in Prairie City.
