Carl Weston, 76, Dies In Field
Carl Weston, 76, who lives with his daughter, Mrs. D. D. Cummings, at Mingo, was found dead in a field on his farm near Ira around 5 p.m. Tuesday.
According to Sheriff Ed Scoville, Weston was found by Finley Battles, who rents the farm, and Jack Baldwin. He said there was no evidence of foul play. Coroner L. H. Koelling said Weston died instantly from a heart attack.
Scoville said that Weston had been cutting up a tree in the field and was seen alive by Mrs. Battles at 3:30 p.m. as she took lunch to her husband who was harvesting beans nearby.
Mr. Weston is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Dennis Cummings of Mingo, with whom he has made his home since 1948; and a brother, Roy of Mingo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters.
Funeral arrangements have not been completed. Burial will be in Union Chapel cemetery.
Mr. Weston will lie in state at the Boyd-Nickell Funeral Home in Baxter until 3 p.m. Thursday when he will be taken to the Cummings home in Mingo.
The son of John and Caroline Weston, he was born Oct. 27, 1881 on a farm near Mingo.
A retired farmer, Mr. Weston was raised and educated in the Mingo community.
He was married June 24, 1908 in Newton to Grace Trusler.
Mr. Weston was a member of the Ira Christian church and the Jasper County Farm Bureau.
