December 18, 1939 ~ December 31, 2021 (age 82)

Joseph “Joe” Charles Waiksnis, 82, died on Friday, December 31, 2021, at the Iowa Veteran’s Home in Marshalltown. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at the Iowa Veteran’s Home Cemetery in Marshalltown. Memorials to the American Legion Post 111 may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.

Joe was born on December 18, 1939 to Joseph and Anna Waiksnis in New York City, New York. He lived in Queens where he attended high school. Joe was a tile layer and had done tile work at the World Trade Center, prior to enlisting in the Marine Corp. He served his country in the Vietnam War. In 1997, Joe was united in marriage with Dodie Olsthoorn. They lived in Wyoming Arizona, and Montana before returning to Iowa in 2009. Joe had worked for the US Postal Service and later for Walmart. He was a member of the American Legion Post 111 in Newton and had attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Joe is preceded in death by his wife Dodie, who passed away last month. He is survived by Dodie’s siblings, Harvey (Sandra) Olsthoorn of Kellogg, Ruth (Ron) Graham of Kellogg, Ardella (John) Burr of Newton; a step-grandchild, Dana (Andy) Anderson of Kellogg; and seven step-great-grandchildren including Makatlyn and Khryssa Anderson of Kellogg.
