Sally Jo (Stubbe) Morris
January 21, 1936 ~ December 14, 2021 (age 85)

Sally Jo (Stubbe) Morris, 85, of Newton died on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, at Newton Village. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, December 21, at the Newton Church of the Way. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials to Hope Ministries or the Newton Church of the Way may be left at the church the day of the service or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.

Sally, the daughter of Jakie and Mary (Bucklin) Stubbe, was born on January 21, 1936 in Iowa City. She grew up in Baxter and graduated from Baxter High School in 1954. Following high school, Sally moved to Des Moines to attend Americana Beauty School, graduating in 1955. She then moved back to Baxter and began working at a beauty shop in Marshalltown. At a dance in Marshalltown, she would meet Marvin Morris from Kellogg and as you would say “the rest is history”. They were united in marriage on August 12, 1956, in Baxter. They made their home in Newton, because it was halfway between their two hometowns. For many years, Sally had a beauty salon out of her home and later she would do the hair of the residents at Park Centre.

Marvin and Sally were charter members of the Newton Community Reformed Church, now the Newton Church of the Way. Sally has always been active in the church with RCA Women’s Guild and as the kitchen chair, organizing lunches for funerals and weddings, for many years. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society and the chair of Crop Walk. Sally was a wonderful cook and baker. She also loved to host events for family, friends, and classmates. Marvin and Sally enjoyed owning a lake home at Holiday Lake for 20 years and their many vacations to Hawaii.

Sally is survived by her husband, Marvin Morris of Newton; children, Jackie Morris of Newton, Mark (Meri) Morris of Grimes, Shane (Kristin) Morris of Manchester; grandchildren, Phillip (Rachel) Morris of Solon, Adam Morris of Des Moines, Madison Morris of Des Moines, and Alex Morris of Kansas City, Missouri; her great-grandchildren, Junie Morris and Maggie Morris; brother-in-law, Richard Maggard of Baxter; and three sisters-in-law, Marilyn Hansen of Newton, Marsha Ebert Goodrich of Newton, and Marvel (Russ) Johnson of Texas. She is also survived by Milt Cannon of Arizona, Jill (Chad) Hollingsworth of Grinnell, Rob Cannon of Newton and several special nieces, nephews, and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; son, Michael Morris; and sister, Linda (Stubbe) Maggard.
