Vandalia, Ia. –William Edward Pulver, 82-year-old retired farmer who had lived in this community since he was three years old, died in his sleep, Thursday morning in the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. J. J. McCoy.
Mr. Pulver has been in failing health for several years. His condition recently had not been noticeably critical and death came quietly as he remained in bed late Thursday morning.
Born near Fort Des Moines, Ia., Oct. 7, 1857, Mr. Pulver became a resident of Jasper county three years later. On Oct. 17, 1881, he was married at Runnells, Ia., to Lucy Bell Burnett, who preceded him in death about 20 years ago. Mr. Pulver was a member of the Church of Christ church.
Mr. Pulver’s father, Daniel Ferdinand Pulver, native of Switzerland, erected a residence modeled after the home of his native land. Known widely as “The Pulver House” the home became a historic landmark in this community. The house was destroyed by fire in April of 1929 and since then the son of the builder has lived in the home of his daughter.
Surviving relatives include six sons and daughters – Mrs. Allen Douglas of Valparaiso, Ind., Mrs. Ida Quick of Des Moines, Ia., and Mrs. Frank Green, Francis Pulver, Mrs. J. J. McCoy and Mrs. James Daughterty, all of Jasper county.
Funeral services were being held at the Vandalia Community church this afternoon with the Rev. Otis Warren of Ivy, Ia., in charge. Burial was to be in the Vandalia cemetery.
The Runnells mixed quartet was to sing. Pallbearers, all grandchildren of Mr. Pulver, were to be Walter Daughterty, Glen Daugherty, Melvin Green, Lester Quick, Raymond Wicker and Harold Engle. (Photo accompanied obituary)
