Ingle, Vern Madison – 1926-2007

Vern Madison Ingle was born on Thursday; October 7, 1926 near Runnells; Polk County, Iowa. He was the son of Charles Ingle and Electa (Miller) Ingle. Vern was raised in the Runnells and Swan areas, graduating with the Pleasantville High School Class of 1943. In 1945 Vern was inducted into the United States Army. During boot camp, he was married on Saturday; March 10, 1945 to Nora Lee Sherwood in Temple; Bell County, Texas. He received the Victory Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon and the Meritorious Unit Award. He was honorably discharged in August of 1946.
Following the war, Vern and Nora Lee first made their home in Knoxville; Marion County, Iowa. Vern worked in the dry cleaning business for a couple of years in Knoxville. The couple then moved to their farm north of Pleasantville; Marion County, Iowa. They farmed full-time and Vern also worked at the ASCS office for over 35 years. He and Nora Lee also raised 2000 chickens a year and supplied local restaurants with eggs, including Johnnie and Kay's. He was always proud of his crops and tended them carefully, always watching for weeds, especially thistles. Vern had a variety of interests: He was a 4-H leader, a sports enthusiast, a mushroom hunter, also he picked walnuts and grew a large vegetable garden. He loved sharing his vegetables, mushrooms and walnuts with all of his friends.
Vern and Nora Lee loved company; everyone was always welcome in their home and they served hundreds of meals to family and friends through the years. He was a very generous person and was always concerned with other people's welfare above his own. He was a faithful member of the Church of Christ in Pleasant Hill, where he served as an Elder for over 35 years. His greatest love was his family and he cherished each and every member. He especially took pride in attending his grandkid's activities. Vern will be remembered as a loving and devoted servant of the Lord and all mankind.
Vern Madison Ingle, age 81, passed away on Wednesday; December 19, 2007 at the Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines; Polk County, Iowa. Those left to mourn his passing are: His loving wife of 62 years: Nora Lee. His children: Suzanne Harvey (Bruce) of Pleasant Hill; Polk County, Iowa. Ned Ingle (Connie) of Fort Dodge; Webster County, Iowa. David Ingle (Joyce) of Mitchellville; Polk County, Iowa and Cynthia Morris (Mark) of Lee's Summit, Jackson County, Missouri. His thirteen grandchildren and fifteen great- grandchildren. His brother: Marvin of Prairie City; Jasper County, Iowa. Also many other family members and friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his seven brothers: Goldie, Walter, Glenn, Harold, Gilbert, Paul and Lester and one sister: Hazel Duckstein. May they rest in peace.
Visitation will be from: 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday; December 21, 2007 at the funeral home. Funeral services will begin at: 11:00 a.m. on Saturday; December 22, 2007 at the Pleasant Hill Church Of Christ in Pleasant Hill, Iowa. Interment will be in the Vandalia Cemetery. Vern Ingle age 81, of Pleasantville passed away on Wednesday at the Iowa Lutheran Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at the Church of Christ, 5091 East University, in Pleasant Hill at 11 a.m. Burial, with military honors, will follow in the Vandalia Cemetery.
He farmed in the Pleasantville area most of his life and worked for the ASCA office.
He is survived by his wife, Nora Lee; his children, Suzanne Harvey (Bruce) of Pleasant Hill, Ned Ingle (Connie) of Ft. Dodge, David Ingle (Joyce) of Mitchellville, and Cynthia Morris (Mark) of Lee’s Summit, MO; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and his brother, Marvin of Prairie City.
Visitation will begin at the Mason Funeral Home after 11 a.m. on Friday where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
