~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Melinda was the wife of William (Billy) Hilton, son of James Andrew Hilton & Frances Elizabeth (Spurgeon) Hilton. The children of William & Melinda were Mary, Charles F., Willis, Martha, and Willard. Melinda's gravestone reads that she died at 29 years 7 months and 28 days. Her husband, William Hilton, was buried in Crescent Cemetery in Logan County Oklahoma in 1915. Their first son, Charles F., died as an infant on December 22, 1867. According to the tombstone in the Vandalia Cemetery, a second son, Willis also died as an infant on February 3, 1875. This tombstone defines that Willard and Willis were two different children. According to the 1880 census, Willard was seven which would place his birth year as 1873. Willard's obituary posted in the "Prairie City News in 1893 states that he died in a coal mining accident at Swan, Iowa on October 11, 1893. The obituary states that he was the only son of William Hilton. The two infant sons share a tombstone in the Vandalia cemetery. I don't know where Willard is buried.
