Hollis was born on December 12, 1932, in Runnells, Iowa.He was the son of George and Bessie (Spencer) Stier. As a very young man, he did a lot of farm work and mason work. He worked alongside his grandfather Alfred Spencer. He loved to be with his grandmother Etta as well.
Hollis was drafted into the United States Army during the Korean conflict from 1954-1956. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, he began his work in the concrete business. He was a genius when it came to working with concrete, he poured many basements, patios, sidewalks, and driveways in the Marshalltown area. He worked closely with his brother Erv. He eventually owned and operated a couple of his own concrete businesses in Marshalltown for over 30 years until his retirement.
He married Merilyn Perkins prior to his service in the Army and they were the parents of three children. The two later separated.
He married his second wife, Carolyn Molzahn, in 1960. They were blessed with two children together.
He married Beverly Butler and through this union he gained a son, Jeff Butler, whom he raised as his own.
Following their separation, Hollis met Lillian Dean and the two celebrated a wonderful 33 years together.
Hollis was a very hard worker and always had to be doing something. He loved his happy hour with his friends where he would play pool and down his afternoon cocktails. He often would be known as one who could cuss like a sailor. He followed his favorite football team which were the Kansas City Chiefs. He was a member of the State Center American Legion Post #122.
Surviving are his longtime companion, Lillian Dean; his sister Lois Eilander; his children, Gary Stier and Rich Stier of Arizona, and Rita (Mark) Lyon of Nevada; his step-children Jeff Butler, Angela (Stacey) Warren, Ginger Dean, and Sam Dean; numerous grandchildren; great grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren; and his furry companion Kaden.

The family wishes to thank the staff at the Iowa Veteran's home for their care for Hollis over the last year.
