Rosa Lee Sutton, 91, of West Des Moines, passed away Saturday, Oct. 23, 2021, at home. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 30 at Iles Westover Chapel. Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.
Rosa was born May 4, 1930, in Colfax, to Earl and Ida (Brown) Ellsworth, graduated from Colfax High School in 1948 and married Walter Sutton on Jan. 23, 1949. They owned and operated Eva Lake Resort in Atikokan, Ontario for the early part of their marriage. They moved to Des Moines in 1962, where they raised their four children. Rosa worked as a lead teller for Wells Fargo until her retirement. She had a passion for flowers and was a very active member of the Greater Des Moines Garden Club. Rosa was proud of her blue ribbons for flower arrangements she created for the garden shows. She loved jigsaw and crossword puzzles and had an extensive vocabulary.
In her 91 years on this earth she was always a loving, patient and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her smile, laughter and warmth let everyone know they were truly loved and she would always be there for her family.
Rosa is survived by children, Robert (Elizabeth) Sprowell of Oceanside, Calif., Dori Lyman of Des Moines, Richard Sutton of Miami, Fla., Randal (Vickie) Sutton of Granger and Norman (Christina) Sutton of Des Moines; 11 grandchildren, Megan (Justin Farlow) Lyman, Nathan (Kate) Lyman, Amanda (David) Murphy, Sara (Scott) Welbourne, Josiah Sutton, Caleb Sutton, Alexander Sutton, Kaylee Sutton, Jordan Sutton, Emily Sprowell and Stephenie Sprowell; four great-grandchildren; and three bonus great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; her parents; and siblings, Norman Ellsworth, Dorothy Van Elsen, Clara Ann Breckenridge and Bernice Ellsworth.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Iles Westover Chapel. Contributions may be made to the Greater Des Moines Garden Club. Online condolences will be welcomed at IlesCares.com.
