Pastor M. Ellen Krieg Deere, 90, of Newton died Tuesday at Skiff Medical Center of heart failure.
Memorial service will be held Friday at the Wallace Funeral Home in Newton at 11 a.m. Pastor Greg Howse of Foursquare Church in Chicago Heights, Ill., and Pastor Jim Black of Foursquare Church in Newton will officiate. Burial will be in Vandalia Cemetery.
Visitation will be after 9 a.m. and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials in Pastor Ellen Deere’s name may be left at the funeral home.
The daughter of George Francis and Margaret Pringle Howse, she was born Dec. 1, 1909 in Ontario, Canada. Pastor Deere was a graduate of L.I.F.E. Bible College in 1933. She was a Minister-Evangelist for the Foursquare Church for 62 years, retiring in 1988. Deere was a member of the Foursquare Church, United Foursquare Women and L.I.F.E. Bible Alumni Association.
She was married to Robert Krieg in 1942 in Amherst, Ohio. Robert was killed in 1944, during WW II. In October of 1949, Pastor Deere was united in marriage to Fred J Deere in Newton.
Survivors include her daughter Joyce Hotchkin of Kellogg; 11 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; her brother, Rev. Bennet Howse of Lewis, Indiana and sister, Mary Struckhoff of San Juan Capistrano, California.
Pastor Deere was preceded in death by her parents; first her husband, Robert Kreig in 1944 and second husband, Fred J Deere in 1979; her two daughters Colleen Hoeksema and Normalie Osland; two sons-in-law, Wilbur Osland and Neil Hotchkin; her grandson, Scott Hotchkin three brothers Bill, Frank and Norman Howse; and her sister, Pearl Averill.
