Doris Lee (Speak) Dickerson
March 19, 1932 ~ October 31, 2021 (age 89)

Doris Lee (Speak) Dickerson, 89, of Newton died on Sunday, October 31, 2021, at Newton Health Care Center. A private family graveside service will be held. Memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.

Doris, the daughter of Dewey and Mamie (McWilliams) Speak, was born on March 19, 1932, in Unionville, Missouri. As a child her family moved to Jasper County, Iowa where she would reside for the rest of her life. Doris was united in marriage with Ray E. Dickerson on November 14, 1960, in Knoxville. They would make their home in Reasnor and Newton.

Doris worked in the factory at WinPower until they closed and then at Maytag until her retirement. Doris loved to flower and vegetable garden, read, and do projects and decorating around her home. She enjoyed going to the casino and cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals. Doris and Ray also liked to travel and camp; especially during their yearly time spent at the Iowa State Fair campgrounds.

Doris is survived by her daughters, Karla Clement, Sharon Clark, and Debi (Rob) Snook all of Newton; grandchildren, Steve Ayers, Julie McWhirter, Lisa Hansen (Ron Dille), Mark Ayers, Dave Purvis, Kim (Keith) Mueller, Leasha (Ryan) Trease, Emily (Shawn) Barrett, and Ryan Provin; 17 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ray Dickerson; siblings, Keith Speak and Barbara Robson; sons-in-law, Jerry Clement and Jim Ayers; grandson-in-law, Brian McWhirter; granddaughter-in-law, Diana Purvis; and great-grandson, Tyler Purvis.
