Funeral Services For Mrs. J. D. Furnoy
Funeral services were held at the Church of the Latter Day Saints Thursday afternoon, June 5th, at 2:00 o’clock for Mrs. J. D. Furnoy. Mrs. Walter Skinner and Mrs. Hazel McKinney, accompanied by Mrs. Blanche Parks, sang “In the Garden,” “Beyond the Sunset” and “Near to the Heart of God.” The funeral sermon was delivered by Rev. N. Gayle Fischer of the Christian church in Prairie City. Pallbearers were Vic Howard, Elmer Carpenter, Ora Ware, Hubert Hunnell, C. B. Osborne, and W. H. Bowers. Interment was made in the Vandalia cemetery.
Gertie Furnoy, daughter of Robert and Sereptia Anderson, was born in Runnells, Iowa, September 4, 1879 and passed away at Broadlawns Hospital in Des Moines, June 3, 1947, at the age of 67 years, 8 months, and 29 days.
She spent her entire life in the vicinity of Runnells and Vandalia. The last nine years had been spent in Runnells.
On November 27, 1900, she was united in marriage to Joseph Daniel Furnoy. To this union were born two daughters and three sons. An infant daughter and husband preceded her in death.
She had three brothers and two sisters. Two brothers preceded her in death, Samuel Anderson, Thomas Anderson and Mrs. Emma Trimble. One twin brother, Bert Anderson and Mrs. Prudence Moore are both living.
She leaves to mourn her passing four children, Mrs. Jack (Mable) Mott of Des Moines, Archie of Runnells, Forrest of Pleasantville and Joe of Prairie City. There are 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
