Jean Jones, 77, Former Newton Resident Dies
Mrs. Ben (Jean) Jones, 77, of Tama, a former resident of Newton, died recently at the Marshalltown Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Tama. Burial will be Wednesday at the Newton Union Cemetery.
Survivors are her husband, two sons, Dr. Alan Jones of Grinnell and Dr. Ben Jones of Ottawa, Canada; six grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Sellman of Los Angeles, Calif., and Arthur Sellman of El Paso, Tex.; and four sisters, Mrs. Jessie Brayton, Mrs. Urith Kinginger and Mrs. Frances Mossman, all of Albuquerque, N. M., and Mrs. Esther Romanoff of Dearborn, Mich.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Florence Sellman.
Mrs. Jones a 50 year member of the Order of Easter Star, PEO and Octagon Club, was active in the women’s organizations of the United Methodist Church in Tama where she had taught in Sunday school and served as superintendent of the church school.
The daughter of Frank and Laura Cooper Sellman, she was born Jan. 24, 1899 in Galesburg, was a 1915 graduate of Newton Community High School, attended Drake University in Des Moines and taught in Newton schools.
She was married July 31, 1924 in Newton.
