A. Claussen Dies Here; Life-long Resident Dies Following Lingering Illness; Riles Sunday
Arthur Claussen, 71, life-long resident of Newton, succumbed at his home at 304 South Fifth Avenue East late Thursday of a malignant ailment.
Mr. Claussen had been ill for the past two years and had been bedfast for sometime.
The son of Mr. and Mrs. Claus Claussen, early pioneers here, he was born Dec 5, 1872. He attended the local public schools and the Hazel Dell Academy.
On Nov. 6, 1915 he was married to Mrs. Anna M. Jackson.
He formerly was engaged in road construction and later operated a hay business until he was forced to retire because of his health.
Hi is survived by his wife, three step-children; Marjorie Jackson of Newton, Glenn Jackson of Marshalltown and Leslie Jackson of the U S. Navy; three brothers, Fred of Boone, Henry of Knoxville, and Walter of Kellogg; and a sister, Mrs. Ella McMillan of Hot Springs, Ark.
He was preceded in death by a brother Chris, in 1940.
The funeral services will be held on Sunday at 2:30 oclock at the Murdoch Funeral home with the Rev. Fredrick Boldt, pastor of the First Lutheran church, officiating.
Interment will be in the Newton Union cemetery.
