Jerry Keith Johnson, 63, of Runnells died on Saturday, September 04, 2021, at home. The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, September 09, 2021, at Newton First Assembly of God. Memorials in Jerry’s name (checks made payable to Shirley Johnson) may be left at the funeral home.

Jerry, the son of Marvin and Gene (Van Sickle) Johnson, was born on May 23, 1958, in Newton. He grew up in Newton and graduated from Newton High School in 1976. Following graduation, Jerry attended numerous trade schools, allowing him to become an HVAC commercial sales manager with Wyckoff Industries for 25 years. On September 19, 1986, Jerry was united in marriage with Shirley (Patterson) Johnson in Woodstock, Georgia. For the past 31 years, they resided in Runnells, though Jerry had previously lived in Des Moines and Altoona. Jerry loved all things classic cars, the Iowa Hawkeyes, and spending time at the lake with family. Most of all, Jerry loved his grandkids.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Shirley Johnson of Runnells; children, Christopher (Elizabeth) Johnson of Runnells and Sara (Jason) Ohlfest of Marshalltown; grandchildren, Julia, Cameron, Preston, Elliott, and Everett; siblings, Gloria (Carl) VanZee of Colfax, Shirley (Gordon) Verwers of Woodstock, Georgia, and David (Lisa) Johnson of Bluffton, South Carolina; sisters-in-law Kathy Hopman of Newton and Silvia Patterson of Newton; brother-in-law, Franz (Jennifer) Patterson of Newton; nieces, Brenda, Carla, Amy, Natalie, Molly, Mattie, and Emily; nephews, Chad and Zach; and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews and cousins. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Gene; brother-in-law, Dean Hopman; mother-in-law, Heidi Patterson; father-in-law, Don Patterson; and nephew, A.J. Newell.
