Renae Lorraine (Doland) Heikkila, 52, of Newton died on Friday, September 3, 2021, at MercyOne Newton Medical Center. A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 17, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at the Newton Church of the Way. Memorials in Renae’s name (checks made payable to Arthur Heikkila) may be left at the church the day of the service or at the funeral home.

Renae was born to Horal “Bud” Doland and Sandra Close on July 8th, 1969, in Newton. She graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1987. On July 3, 1993, Renae was united in marriage with Arthur Heikkila in Des Moines. Renae and Art lived in several places, but mainly called Minneapolis and Newton their home. Renae always held a leadership position in her careers. She spent several years in personal, business, and spiritual development training which fueled her entrepreneur spirit. She successfully built and ran several businesses over the years and touched so many in the process with her leadership and motivational speaking. Her most recent position was as an Insurance Agent with Lonnie Portner State Farm. In addition to her career, Renae was a singer and loved karaoke. She loved listening to her daughter sing. She also loved playing BINGO, playing pool, camping, roller skating, playing cards/games, and just being with her family and friends. She was known for always having a pep in her step, an idea in her mind and a smile on her face.

Renae is survived by her husband, Arthur Heikkila of Newton; children, Anna Heikkila of New Hope, Minnesota, Daniel Heikkila of New Hope, Minnesota, Sonja (Adam) Nelson of New Hope, Minnesota, Sarah Heikkila of Plymouth, Minnesota, and Danielle Bulmer of Newton; grandchildren, Jacob Nelson, Faith Nelson, Thomas Nelson, Claire Heikkila, and Aubrey Bulmer; siblings, Kelly (Jeff) Jolley of Newton, Buddy (DeAnna) Doland of Des Moines, Jason Doland of Newton, and Amanda (Mike) Butler of Newton; father, Horal “Bud” Doland of Newton; mom, Becky Beston of Newton; mother, Sandra Close of Des Moines and several nieces and nephews including 1 great-niece and 2 great-nephews.
