Thomas H. Hoggarth was born at Hull, Yorkshire, England, April 5th, 1861 and died at the Methodist hospital Des Moines, March 2nd, 1925, aged 64 years, had he lived until April 5th, 1925.
Mr. Hoggarth left England for the United States, in 1881, settling down in West Virginia, also lived in Illinois and Kentucky for a period of ten years, returning to England in 1891, and married Miss Louisa Wallis, returning to the United States the same year and located in Iowa, where he has resided ever since.
Two daughters are left to mourn his loss, Mrs. Luke Sharples, of Colfax, and Mrs. Vera Raymond, of Newton, besides two brothers and one sister, John Hoggarth, Springfield, Nebr., Frank Hoggarth, Scarbrough, England, and Mrs. Mary Dobson, of Scarbrough, England, also six grandchildren.
On Jan. 15th while working in a coal mine at Waukee, Iowa he was injured by falling roof severely, causing him to enter the Methodist hospital at Des Moines for treatment, after remaining in the hospital for two weeks he came to Colfax to his daughter, Mrs. Luke Sharples.
His condition grew worse so he returned to the hospital with hopes that an operation would help him. After being operated on pneumonia set in, being in a weakened condition he had no vitality to help fight the disease which eventually caused his death March 2nd, 1925 at 5 p.m., after much suffering.
Mrs. Hoggarth preceded him in death three years ago. Mr. Hoggarth was a man of kind disposition and a loyal citizen. In the passing of Mr. Hoggarth his many friends will feel his loss; gone but not forgotten.
The funeral services were held on Wednesday at 2:30 from the M.E. church, Rev. W. M. Brooks, of Valley Junction, officiating. Interment was made at McKeever cemetery.
