Grinnell – Wilbur L. Schnell, 84, of 1414 9th Ave. Lane, Grinnell, a former farmer in the Killduff area, died Monday, Oct. 21, at his home following a heart attack.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Grinnell.
The Rev. Arvid Dixen, pastor of the church, will conduct services.
Graveside rites will be held at 1:45 p.m. Friday at St. Andrew’s Cemetery, west of Sully.
Memorials to St. John’s Lutheran Church may be sent to the church or to Smith Funeral Home, Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112.
Survivors are his wife, Anna; two daughters, Charleen F. Matouk of Amman, Jordan and Luane J. Spengler of Mendota, Ill; four grandchildren; a brother, Robert Schnell of Sully; and a sister, Dorothy Elliott of Grinnell.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Paul, and two brothers, Raymond and Claire.
Mr. Schnell was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Grinnell and the Farm Bureau.
The son of Louis and Myrtle Rohrdanz Schnell, he was born Feb. 23, 1907 near Killduff and attended rural schools.
He was married to Anna Van Genderen Feb. 23, 1938 in Sully and the couple farmed near Killduff until 1958 when they moved to a farm in the Oak Grove area, south of Grinnell.
Mr. Schnell retired from farming in 1972, at which time he moved to Grinnell.
