Funeral services for Robert L. “Bob” Van Weelden, 52, Sunrise Terrace 17C, a resident of Newton since 1964 and a former longtime resident of Lynnville, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 13, at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.
The Rev. Ray Barnett, pastor of the First Christian Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 8 a.m. Saturday. Visitation with the family will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials to a fund in his name will be accepted.
He died Thursday morning at his home of heart failure.
Survivors are his wife, Merryll J.; three daughters, Jennifer (Mrs. Alfred) Good of Newton, Angie (Mrs. Joe) Carter of Des Moines and Bobbi (Mrs. Menvil) Hites of Perry; and 20 grandchildren.
Also surviving are two sisters, Delores (Mrs. Dale) Wallace of Florida and Diana (Mrs. Arnie) Agan of Newton; a step-brother, Ralph Terpstra of Ackley; and his step-mother, Elizabeth Van Weelden of Ackley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sons, Robert, Timothy and Christopher, and a brother, David.
Mr. Van Weelden, a member of the Newton Moose Lodge 923 and ABC Bowling Association, was a truck driver for 28 years, had been a self-employed trucker for Western Transportation, North American Truck Line, Bisom Truck line, ACE Lines, Mickow, Smitty’s Truck Line and Sully Transport, and had been a dispatcher for Hawkeye Wood Shavings for the past five years.
The son of Arie A. and Jennie H. Swank Van Weelden, he was born July 22, 1939 in Newton and was graduated from Lynnville Community High School.
He was married to Merryll J. Gearhart Dec. 7, 1958 at the First Christian Church in Newton.
