Lu Van, San – 1912-1990

San Lu Van, 78, of 820 1st Ave. E., a resident of Newton since 1976, died Saturday, Nov. 10, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids of heart failure.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.
The Rev. Paul Wilcox, pastor of St. Luke United Methodist Church, and Quang Rasavan will conduct services. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 8 a.m. Friday.
Survivors are his wife, Ing Lu Van; a son, Vieng Lu Van of Cedar Rapids; four daughters, Le Lu Thi and Lian Lu Thi, both of France, Liu Lu Thi of Des Moines and Heuay Thong Vanh of Newton; and 36 grandchildren.
Also surviving are two brothers, Pab Lou Van of Des Moines and Hoan Lou Van of Houston, Texas; and a sister, Hom Hathi of Des Moines.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Lu Van, a retired mayor of Muong La Sonla, North Vietnam, was a member of the Society of Tai Dam-American Friendship.
The son of Lu Van-Eng Lu Thi, he was born June 7, 1912 in Muong La Sonla, North Vietnam.
The family had been refugees in Laos from 1954 to 1976 after they fled for political asylum from North Vietnam.
