Services Held For Martha O. Kanne
Funeral services for Martha Olga Demann Kanne, 90, a resident of Baxter since 1960, were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 13, at the Bethany United Church of Christ, east of Baxter.
The Rev. Marie Paterik, pastor of the church, conducted services. Burial was in the Bethany Cemetery.
Memorials to the church or the Baxter Rescue Unit will be accepted.
Survivors are two sons, Rueben of Marshalltown and Adelbert of Baxter; two daughter, Anna Meta Pejchl of Lakewood, Calif., and Clarice Thompson of Newton; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Laura Demann of Baxter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence, in 1951, parents and a brother.
Mrs. Kanne, a rural school teacher for 10 years, was a member of the Bethany United Church of Christ, the Eveready Club, Ladies Aid and Senior Citizens and had been a Sunday school teacher.
The daughter of Louis and Anna Scheidt Demann, she was born May 2, 1901 in Newton, was educated in Newton and Baxter schools. She was a 1921 graduate of Baxter Community High School and took her normal training at the University of Northern Iowa at Cedar Falls.
She was married to Clarence Kanne May 31, 1933 in the Zoar Church, north of Newton.
Following their marriage, the couple farmed near Baxter.
