December 19, 1956 ~ July 22, 2021 (age 64)

Timothy John McMaster, 64, of Newton died on Thursday, July 22, 2021, at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 28, 2021, at the First Baptist Church in Colfax. The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, July 27, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorials in Tim’s name may be left at the funeral home or at the church the morning of the service.

Tim, the son of John T. and Wanda (Lewis) McMaster, was born on December 19, 1956 in Newton. He graduated from Newton High School in 1975. He later attended St. Paul Bible College and then trade school in Marshalltown to become a machinist.

On June 10, 1978, Tim was united in marriage with Catherine “Cathy” Wickerham in Newton. They made their home in Newton, Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Lindstrom, Minnesota before returning to Newton in 1988. Tim worked for 32 years as a machinist for The Dupps Company in Ankeny. Tim was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Colfax. He was involved in many children’s ministries including Awana Club and puppet ministries that he and Cathy performed for many years. He also served on the Iowa Awana Board.

Tim enjoyed hunting, fishing, smoking meat, and was a talented leather worker and carpenter. He loved his grandchildren and would fill in as a “dancing papa” for his granddaughter’s dance recitals.

Tim is survived by his wife, Cathy McMaster of Newton; children, Jessica McMaster (Aaron Van Hauen) of Parkersburg, Becki (Scott) Vasseau of Kellogg, Joanna (Dustin) Ellis of Newton, and Amanda (Drew) Claseman of Newton; his grandchildren, Jon and Alivia Lawton, Lexi, Vanessa, and Viana Vasseau, Ashtyn, Treyton, and Ariya Ellis, Garrison Claseman and one more on the way; siblings, Marilyn Anderson (Ron Van Weelden) of Newton, and Ruby (Ron) Timmins of Monroe; and his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
