E. Zimmerman Dies at Hospital; Rites Saturday
Baxter – Elmer Russell Zimmerman, 71, a longtime resident of northwest Jasper County, died this morning at the Skiff Memorial Hospital in Newton.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Ira Methodist Church.
Burial will be in Union Chapel Cemetery at Ira.
Boyd-Nickell Funeral Home in Baxter is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors are his wife, Hazel; a daughter, Mrs. James (Erma) Sapp of Des Moines; five grandchildren and four sisters, Mrs. Daisy Edwards and Mrs. Fannie Edwards, both of Des Moines. Mrs. Lucy Riggall of Ira and Mrs. Maude Hall of Bondurant.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a child, a sister and a brother.
The son of William and Clara Zimmerman he was born Oct. 8, 1894 in northwest Jasper County.
Born in northwest Jasper County, he was educated in rural schools and served in the Army from 1918 until the end of World War I. He was stationed in both France and Germany.
He was married to Hazel Addy Dec. 25, 1925 in Toledo.
Mr. Zimmerman farmed near Ira on the home farm since his marriage.
