Ira and Goddard News – The funeral services for William Zimmerman were held Friday afternoon at the M.E. church with burial in Union Chapel. His five daughters and one son with his aged wife were left to mourn his sudden departure. They were all present for the funeral. He had lived in this vicinity for over 60 years, was a well-respected citizen and for many years supplied the community with brooms and honey. He will be greatly missed as a neighbor and deepest sympathy is extended to the bereaved family.

William Edward Zimmerman, son of Joseph and Katherine Zimmerman was born, January 4th, 1848 in Tuscarawan county, Ohio and departed this life July 22nd, 1929 at the age of 81 years, 6 months and 18 days.
When a young man 21 years of age he came to Jasper county, Iowa. He was united in marriage in August 1877 to Clara Keesler, and to this union seven children were born; five daughters and two sons. All of whom survive excepting one son Harry Clayton Zimmerman, who died in 1890 at the age of two years.
Besides the widow, the following are left to mourn: Mrs. C. W. Edwards, of Des Moines; Mrs. J. C. Willits of Ira; Mrs. Charley Perin of Collins; Mrs. J. T. Edwards of Des Moines; Mrs. J. K. Hall of Bondurant and Elmer Zimmerman at home. Seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two brothers, Joseph and Clark Zimmerman of Des Moines, Iowa and one sister, Mrs. Emma Musgrove of Colorado. Five sisters and one brother having preceded him in death. All the children were present at the funeral service.
In 1890 Mr. Zimmerman was converted and joined in the M.E. church, services being held at Spring Hill School House. Altho not an active member in later years he was a firm believer.
Mr. Zimmerman had been in unusual health for one of his age and as was his custom he was busy with the farm tasks when the end suddenly came.
Another pioneer has gone from our midst. Mr. Zimmerman had lived in the Ira vicinity all of his married life. He was truly a “home loving” man; quiet and unassuming always busy at his work with the fruit.
He was a kind husband and father and was never happier than when his children and families would come home for a visit. It is they who will miss him most.
(Poem not included here)
Funeral services were held at the home and at the Ira M.E. church on Friday, July 26th at 2 p.m. Rev. A. J. Matthews being in charge. Interment was at the Union Chapel cemetery.
