Funeral Services Held For Mrs. A. C. Holtz
Funeral services were conducted from the Ira Methodist Church Saturday afternoon, May 4 for Mrs. Lillie May Holtz, who passed away May 1 at the home of her daughter Mrs. Andrew Beard. The Rev. James F. Phillips, pastor of the Baptist Church in Newton, assisted by Rev. Orville Woodman of Maxwell, officiated. Music was furnished by Mrs. Howard Southern and Mrs. Lou Neal accompanied by Mrs. L. L. Pickett of Mingo. The flower committee included Florence McIntire, Mrs. Loren Murphy and Mrs. J. H. Boyd. Pall bearers were Loren Murphy, Albert Allan, Wilbur Lowry, Gale Rippey, Jim Rhone and Clarence Planalp. Interment was made in the Union Chapel cemetery.
Lillie May Baker was born the second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Baker at the farm home near Ira on August 31, 1869, where she grew to womanhood, and departed this life in Ira Wednesday morning, May 1, 1946 at the age of 76 years and eight months. She gave her heart to God and united with the Ira Methodist Church in young girlhood and has always lived a devout Christian life. To know her was to love her.
On April 28, 1896, she was united in marriage to Albert C. Holtz, and they spent their fifty years of married life, celebrating their golden wedding just last Sunday, April 28th, 1946. To this union were born three children.
In 1931 they retired from the farm to spend their remaining life in Ira where she devoted much of her active life to her church, seldom missing an Aid meeting. By her sudden passing she leaves her life companion, Albert Holtz, two daughters, Mrs. Mildred Postma of Newton and Mrs. Crystal Beard of Ira, one son, Harold of Monticello, Iowa, and seven grandchildren, also two brothers, Will and Frank Baker of Newton, besides several nieces and nephews and numerous friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters and a half-sister.
