Died – At his residence in Colfax, Iowa, on Sunday, April 16, 1882, A. W. Cross, aged 64 years, 5 months and 5 days.
Deceased was a native of Belmont, Maine, where his boyhood, youth and early manhood were passed. At the age of 23 he emigrated to Ohio, where he lived 15 years, and then removed to Iowa and settled in Jasper county, which retained him as an honored citizen up to the time of his death. A worthy wife and four children survive him.
Mr. Cross has been for more than thirty years a Spiritualist, and died peacefully, a firm believer in that doctrine. His illness was short, extending over a period of less than ten days. He was the victim of pneumonia, brought on by exposure. His funeral occurred at the family residence, Tuesday, the services being conducted by Prof. M. L. Wheat and the remains were interred near Union Chapel, in Poweshiek township.
