Virgil R. Smith, Lifelong Resident Of County, Dies
Prairie City – Virgil R. Smith, 86, who spent his entire life on a farm southwest of Prairie City, died Wednesday in Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Morgan Valley Christian Church near Prairie City.
The Rev. D. D. Hinegardner, minister of the church, will conduct the services. Burial will be in Vandalia Cemetery.
Walters Funeral Home in Prairie City is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors are a brother, Orr O. Smith of Prairie City, and a sister, Mrs. Will (Ethel) Charls of Prairie City.
Mr. Smith, a retired farmer, was born Nov. 15, 1881, on a farm southwest of Prairie City near the Morgan Valley Christian Church of which he was a member. He was educated in rural schools in the Prairie City area.
