Orlo Southern, 56, Dies on Thursday; Services Sunday
Mingo – Orlo M. Southern, 56, of Rt. 2, Mingo, former president of the Central Iowa Production Credit Association and superintendent of the Jasper county 4-H Achievement Show and Fair for 15 years, died Thursday at his farm home after suffering a heart attack.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Union Chapel near Ira.
The Rev. T. A. Thompson, minister of the Baxter Congregational (United Church of Christ) will conduct the services. Burial will be in Union Chapel Cemetery.
Mr. Southern will lie in state at the Boyd-Nickell Funeral Home at Baxter after 6 p.m. today.
Survivors are his wife, Lucille; his mother, Mrs. Coral Southern of Mingo; and two sisters, Mrs. Jadie (Lois) Kimberley of Collins and Mrs. Paul (Thelma) Rumbaugh of Mingo.
He was preceded in death by his father, Edgar, in 1929.
Mr. Southern, who was serving as secretary of the Union Chapel Cemetery Association at the time of his death, was elected president of the Central Iowa Production Credit Association in 1953. He was also a member of the Newton Elks Club.
The son of Edgar and Coral Southern, he was born Oct. 14, 1910 near Mingo and attended Mingo schools. He was graduated from Mingo High School in 1928.
He was married to Lucille Conklin May 13, 1933 in Des Moines.
Mr. Southern resided on a farm south of Mingo his entire life.
