Louis Damerval Died Wed. In Des Moines
Former Colfax Man Passed Away After Short Illness
Louis Damerval, of Des Moines, formerly of Colfax, died late Wednesday night after an illness of a few days of pneumonia. While Mr. Damerval’s last illness was of only a short duration, he had not been in real good health for the past two years, having received an injury in the mine that continually bothered him.
Mr. Damerval was a miner by trade and had been working in the mine about a week previous to his death. He first came to this country in 1906 and located at Seevers and later moved to Colfax where he made his home until moving to Des Moines about three years ago.
He served in the World War, spending about 38 months in the service and was a member of the American Legion organization. He was also a member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge.
Louis Damerval, son of Mr. and Mrs. Octive Damerval, was born at What Cheer, Iowa, March 1st, 1891. He was married to Mary Ellen Moran, June 12th, 1920, at Des Moines, Ia. They came at once to Colfax, where they lived until 1929. They then moved to Des Moines, where he worked in the mines.
He was stricken with pneumonia on February 23, 1933, and died at his home on March 1st, 1933. He was 43 years old the day he died.
He leaves to mourn his passing a devoted wife, two step-children, Thelma Jane and James Lewis Moran; his mother, Mrs. Flora Damerval of Sigourney, two brothers, Harry of Newton and Marshall of Des Moines. He also leaves an uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Damerval of What Cheer, an aunt, Mrs. Marquette of Colfax, also a host of cousins and other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by two sisters and his father.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon from the Christian church in Colfax with Rev. J. W. Taenzler, pastor of the church, officiating.
Music was furnished by Mrs. George Robinson, Mrs. Katherine Rinker, Gomer Williams and Chester Binkerd.
Pall bearers were Harry and Ben Barbour, Charles Sage, Tom Sage, Sam Sage and Alfred Beckham.
Burial was made at the Colfax cemetery.
