A Celebration of Life service for Nancy Starr, 75, who passed away Monday, July 25, 2011 at the Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines, will be held 3 p.m., Thursday, July 28 at the First United Methodist Church in Indianola of which she was a member. Visitation will be held 1 to 3 p.m. prior to services.

Nancy was born in Newton and graduated from Newton High School in 1954.

She was united in marriage to Richard Starr on February 5, 1955, to which union David and Dana were born. The family moved to Indianola in 1957.

Nancy worked as a secretary for Whittier Elementary for 27 years before retiring and was a member of P.E.O. Chapter BP of Indianola, Simpson Guild and was awarded WHO Radio "Hometown Hero" in the mid 90's. Nancy loved spending time with her granddaughters and going to sporting events and shopping.

Nancy is survived by her husband, Richard; son, David (Karen) Starr of Wildwood, MO; son-in-law, Tom Petersen of Cary, IL; and granddaughters, Grace and Erika Starr and Emily and Carli Petersen. She was preceded in death by her parents and daughter Dana Petersen.
