Funeral Service Held For Mrs. Myrtle Frey
Her Death Came After Lingering Illness of Many Months
Funeral services for Mrs. Myrtle Frey were held Saturday afternoon from the Christian church with Rev. J. W. Taensler officiating.
Mrs. Frey passed away at her home here Wednesday evening, following a lingering illness of several months with tuberculosis. She had spent some time at the sanitarium at Oakdale, but was feeling much better and came home and seemed to be gaining until a few weeks ago, when she was reported as not feeling so well, and from that time gradually grew weaker until the end came Wednesday night.
The unusually large attendance at the funeral services showed the esteem and love felt for her by the many friends in this community.
Vera Myrtle Meckley was born March 27, 1894 on the old home place northeast of Colfax. Here she grew to womanhood.
On March 27, 1912 Miss Meckley became the wife of L. P. Frey of Mingo, Iowa. They lived in Mingo for a while, moving later to a place south of Colfax. In 1917 they moved to Minnesota, returning to Colfax seven years ago. To this happy union were born five children.
Our mother has been in poor health the past year until the time came when man could do no help. To find rest she must leave us for a better home beyond. Mother started for her new home, August 29, 1930, at 10:10 in Colfax, Iowa
Leaving to meet this loss to the world are: her five children, Wayne, Berdene, Dale, Ruth, Esther, also her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. E. S. Meckley, one brother, Clifford Meckley; four sisters, Mrs. R. C. Wheeler, Mrs. Lloyd Maggard, Mrs. Joe Stayner, and Mrs. Howard Williams, all of Colfax, except Mrs. Wheeler of Wadena, Minnesota. Also other relative and friends who were a comfort and strength during these last days of trial and suffering.
Mother was a member of the Church of Christ in Colfax. She bore the cross that was hers as best she knew how, always thoughtful of those tender lives instructed to her care.
We would receive the challenge from her life to do our task as Jesus would have us live.
