Killed by Falling Tree
I. F. Schoonover, brother of Mrs. W. L. Irwin, of Des Moines (formerly of this city) was instantly killed at the Ira Cummings place one and a half miles southwest of Mingo, Tuesday at about 4 p.m. while at work sawing down trees. When a tree started to fall the contrary way, Schoonover attempted to get out of danger and would have succeeded had not the falling tree struck a standing tree and deflected in the direction he was running, striking him on the left side, with the result noted above.
Schoonover was 39 years old and had made his home with Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Irwin for 22 years, and is well known in Colfax. His funeral occurred at 2 p.m. today from the M.E. church at Mingo; interment in the Sams cemetery a mile west of Greencastle.
