Philip N. Thomas, 68, of Newton died Wednesday, March 30, 2005, at his home.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Ernest Braida, parish priest at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, officiating. Burial will be at Oakview Cemetery in Albia.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will be available from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted in his name.

The son of Albert Thomas and Dorothy Elizabeth Repp, he was born Jan. 19, 1937, in Albia. On April 28, 1955, he married Shirley J. Molitor in Aurora, Ill. He worked as a meat packer for 16 years and retired from working on the assembly line at the Maytag Company after 25 years. He was a member of UAW Local 997, American Legion, Pony Express and various horse clubs. He enjoyed horses, bird watching and animals, reading and watching western movies and attending gun shows.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Philip N. Jr. and Cindy Thomas and Albert J. and Denise Thomas, all of Newton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Dorothy E. and Don Daniels of Oskaloosa and Tammy and Adam Lankford of Newton; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Frank Thomas of Geneva, Ill., and Clarence Thomas of Albia; and two sister, Arlene Bush of Batavia, Ill., and Janet Sisler of Albia.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a son, Michael A.; a daughter, Shauna L.; and a sister, Evelyn.
