The funeral of the late James Y. Bailey, held Tuesday afternoon was attended by a large number of friends and Masons, who met to pay tribute to the memory of an honored citizen and brother. Rev. O. S. Baker of the Methodist Church officiated. Mrs. George M. Allen, Mrs. Nona Knepper, G. M. Allen and Harry Sprinkle furnished the music. An exceptionally large number of Masons attended the funeral and the funeral cortege was headed by the Knights Templar Band, while the Commandery acted as escort for the Blue Lodge.

Mr. Bailey has been a resident of Newton for fifty-one years. His native home was St. Clairsville, Ohio, where he was born in 1833. On Christmas day in 1854 he was married to Miss Lucena Mason, at Lexington, Ohio. Two children were born to them, Ida, who has remained in the home with them and Charles H. of Seattle, Wash., who arrived for the funeral. It was in the year 1856 that Mr. Bailey and his wife came to this city, where all their interests socially and in a business way have been centered.

For many years the deceased has been a faithful member of the Methodist Church. Socially he was a Mason, having during the many years he has been a member, filled all the higher offices to the Blue Lodge chapter and Commandery, and was spoken of as one of the best informed Masons in central Iowa.

Mr. Bailey is survived by five sisters and two brothers. Only his eldest brother, D. I. Bailey, of Lincoln, Neb., attended the funeral. The other relatives from a distance who were here were: Mrs. D. I. Bailey, of Lincoln, Neb., Mrs. J. H. Bailey, a cousin, of Magnet, Neb., and cousins of deceased, Miss Lura Lister and Herman Clark of Des Moines.
