DES MOINES -- Morris A. Robertson, 80, of Des Moines, formerly of Newton, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with Gary Cummings, lay minister of Maxwell, officiating. Burial will be at Woodland Cemetery in Iowa Center on Friday at 3:30 p.m.

A time of visitation with the family will be held immediately following the memorial service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name may be left at the funeral home.

The son of Ray and Jessie (Oyler) Robertson, he was born Feb. 24, 1924, in Maxwell. He graduated from Maxwell High School in 1942. He was married to Letha Faye "Mary" Van Dyk and worked in the food service department at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center until retirement. He was a member of Maxwell Christian Church and enjoyed playing drums in several Des Moines area bands.

Survivors include a sister, Maxine Phillips of Newton; two nieces; a nephew; and special friend, Dorothy Smith of Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and a brother-in-law, Walter Phillips.
