Bessie Morgan, 90, of Newton died Sunday, June 12, 2005, at Careage of Newton.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Merle Smith of Skiff Medical Center officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.

The family will greet friends from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials will be accepted in her name and may be left at the funeral home.

The daughter of Alfred and Marian (Dillon) Spencer, she was born Oct. 22, 1913, in Barren, Wis. On June 9, 1962, she married Charles W. Morgan in Chicago, Ill. She owned and operated Morgan Shoe Repair in Lompoc, Calif., and enjoyed crocheting, crafts and puzzles. She was a member of the Moose Lodge. Mrs. Morgan lived in the Bay area in California for 13 years and in Newton for 17 years.

Survivors include three sons, Hollis (Lillian) Stier of Montour, Ervin Stier of Baxter and Wayne (Joyce) Stier of Osceola; four daughters, Lois (Lloyd) Eilander of Newton, Catherine (Robert) Lynn of Yuba City, Calif., Patricia "Trish" (Dan) Lapin of Antioch, Calif., and Consuela "Koni" (Lewis) Powers of Garwin; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Bernice Flora of Marshalltown.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and five sisters, Edith Northway, Edna Wignall, Beatrice Butler, Genevieve Fichen and Vivian Eisenbacher.
