Lela May Dont Dies on Sunday; Rites Tuesday

Mrs. Lela May Dont, 63, of Heritage Manor, a resident of Newton since 1968 and longtime resident of Kellogg, died Sunday morning at the Skiff Memorial Hospital.

Requiem mass will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Father Joseph Denning, pastor of the church, will conduct services.

Christian wake services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Johnson-Reese Chapel.

Private family interment services will be held Wednesday morning at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. Monday.

Memorial contributions to a fund set up in Mrs. Dont's name will be accepted. Memorials may be left at the Johnson-Reese Funeral Home.

Survivors are two daughters, Shirley and Karen Dont, both of Newton; and three grandchildren, LeAnn L., Lynn, and Lonnie Appelby, all of Newton.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

Mrs. Dont was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, BPW, Newton Women's Club, Colfax Interfaith Spiritual Center and the Iowa Teachers Association.

She had taught school for 28 years in Jasper County, 18 of which were in Kellogg. She retired due to her health in 1970.
